Tonight we enjoyed a beautiful Valentine’s dinner of soup and garnishes! We also talked about the upcoming fundraisers. Here’s a quick recap: trivia night, Chipotle night, silent auction, and Yankee Candle selling. Be sure to hand out your trivia night and Chipotle night flyers, and don’t forget to mention wichita.edu/altbreak when you are handing out your flyers.
We also covered how to upload your blog to the WordPress! Feel free to add as many photos as you would like! Don’t forget when you are writing your blog to include your name in the title of your blog. The most important thing is to click on Categories on the left sidebar. In this dropdown box, you need to check your name and the topic of the blog (this week’s was Is Reflection Important to Service Learning). Also, remember to uncheck the Uncategorized category. Once you have completed these steps, simply click publish, and you are good to go!
Lastly, we reviewed the articles that we read for this week: “‘I’ve come to help’ Can Tourism and Altruism Mix?” and “A Debate about Voluntourism.” We had group discussions and then we turned in our first Start Something that Matters worksheet.
Next week, be sure to have read “What We Don’t Talk About When We Don’t Talk About Service.” Also, make sure to fill out the YSOP Lodging Forms (Remember there are TWO forms!) Lastly, don’t forget to complete the blog for next week. Write (in 140 characters or less) about someone that inspires you. Include up to four pictures with your blog to familiarize yourself with WordPress! Download the WordPress app for an even easier/quicker blog experience. Ari Kopycinski and Stephanie Merritt will be blogging the inspiration tweet blogs by this weekend, so check those out if you need an example.
